Holiday Stress

Holiday Stress

With Christmas fast approaching make sure it doesn't become a time to remember for all the wrong reasons. For many the decorations are up, the shopping is well underway, and the cards are posted, but for others the word Christmas sends a shrivel up their spine. The thought of all that shopping, Christmas parties, endless cooking and creating a wonderful Christmas means only one thing, STRESS

Here are some ideas that might help to make Christmas a more enjoyable time in your household.

  • Resolve family rows/disputes before Christmas if possible.
  • Choose a deadline to stop your Christmas preparations so that you can start to relax and enjoy the holiday (it's your holiday too.)
  • Take a hot bath to relax and unwind.
  • Play Christmas carols or better still Achieve Wellbeing's Christmas anthem which we will be posting shortly.
  • Discuss plans for Christmas Day with others including children and share out the jobs.
  • Try to get to bed reasonably early on Christmas Eve.
  • Try not to eat/drink too much on the big day.
  • Make time for a short walk if possible as this burns off hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline and helps produce mood-enhancing endorphins.
  • Have fun, laugh and be merry. Thats what good Christmas memories are made from.
  • Fall into bed.
